This youth-created mural features seven key elements celebrating Cataraqui’s spirit: On the left, two children paint together, embodying artistic collaboration. A basketball player mid-dribble activates the court's energy. Back-to-back youth demonstrate both independence and connection, while a bridging structure unifies the composition. Bold "CATARAQUI" lettering anchors community pride, cosmic elements suggest limitless futures, and a hidden cat invites closer looking.
Born from community dialogues during challenging times, this project transformed a basketball court wall through youth leadership. Eight local youth artists guided every phase, from collecting neighborhood surveys to painting the wood panels installed in summer 2025. Their design merges professional mural techniques with personal visions of community strength.
Special thanks to Councillor Parthi Kandavel, Toronto Community Housing, and partners Urban Promise (Jessica/Kuya), Warden Woods Community Centre, and Enrico for making this possible.
